Find unclaimed retirement benefits

Did you earn a retirement benefit from a private-sector employer who lost track of you when your plan ended? If so, your employer may have transferred those benefits to PBGC for safekeeping.

PBGC holds unclaimed benefits for people that were not paid when their retirement plan ended. To help connect them to their benefit, PBGC has created a searchable database.

Enter your last name and the last four digits of your Social Security number.

If your name and Social Security number (SSN) match information in our database, we will tell you how to contact us to continue your search. (But please remember, a match does not necessarily mean that you have a retirement benefit with PBGC.)

If your name and SSN do not match our database, you don’t have to stop your search. You may have a retirement benefit held by your employer or a private financial institution. We will direct you to a webpage where you can find resources to help you continue the search. 

This database includes missing participants who earned benefits in several types of retirement plans: 

  • Defined benefit pension plans that ended in a standard termination.
  • Retirement plans that ended and transferred benefits or information to PBGC’s Expanded Missing Participants Program. Plan types in the program are defined benefit plans, defined contribution plans, multiemployer plans, and small professional services plans.
  • Defined benefit plans that have been trusteed by PBGC.

The database is updated quarterly. The most recent update was May 6, 2025.
