Emailing PBGC: Protect Your Personal Information

PBGC customers can now communicate with us by email. This means you can send completed forms and requests without calling the 1-800 number.

Identity theft and other online crimes continue to be a growing problem. So when you email us, please protect your personal information.

Do not include Social Security numbers or other identifying data in the subject line or body of your email. Also, send all attachments in the JPEG (image) or PDF format.

For your security, your email to PBGC must follow these guidelines:

  • In the subject line:  What your email is about (don’t include personal information such as Social Security number or phone number)
  • In the body of the email, please include:
    • your full name
    • PBGC customer ID number (if you know it)
    • preferred method of contact (phone or email)
    • phone number
    • pension plan name and/or plan number
    • If you are including documents, you must send them as attachments to your email in either JPEG (image) or PDF format. Please do not embed photos in the body of your email. Typical documents sent to PBGC include income verification letter requests, death certificates, and completed PBGC forms, like the Direct Deposit form.

If we need additional information from you, we will contact you to provide it over the phone or in a secure manner.
