Annual and sick leave accrual: All employees of the Corporation accrue both annual and sick leave depending on years of service with the Federal government. Annual leave may be used for vacation or other personal reasons. Sick leave may be used when you are ill, when you have a doctor, dental, or optical appointment, or when you need to provide care to an ill family member.
Child Care Program: PBGC has a childcare subsidy program for employees meeting eligibility requirements.
Direct deposit: All PBGC employees receive their pay through direct deposit to their bank or other financial institution, making their monies available sooner than through traditional check mailing systems.
Employee Assistance Program: The program provides employees with free confidential assistance for help with personal issues that may be affecting work life. The program also provides consultation to supervisors who are trying to best help an employee with performance and/or attendance problems.
Employee Express: PBGC employees have electronic access to an online site where they can perform a variety of discretionary personnel and payroll transactions (e.g., changes to Financial Allotments, Health Benefits, Thrift Savings Plan, Direct Deposit, Federal and State Taxes, Home Address, and Savings Bonds).
Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program: PBGC participants in the FEHB Program to help you and your family meet your healthcare needs. Federal employees, retirees, and their survivors enjoy the widest selection of health plans in the country. You can choose from among consumer-driven and high-deductible plans that offer catastrophic risk protection with higher deductibles, health savings/reimbursable accounts and lower premiums, or fee-for-service (FFS) plans, and their preferred provider organizations (PPO), or health maintenance organizations (HMO) if you live (or sometimes if you work) within the area serviced by the plan. Fitness center: PBGC employees have access to a fitness center at 445 12th Street SW. The fitness center is free and features training mats, free weights, treadmills, exercise bikes, ellipticals, and other equipment. The fitness center is a building amenity, with locker rooms, showers, towels, soap/body wash, shampoo, and conditioner.
Flexible and compressed work schedules: The Corporation offers three schedules, the Gliding Schedule, the 5-4/9 Schedule, and the Maxiflex Schedule. Employees on the Gliding Schedule must arrive between 6 am and 10 am and work 8 hours plus a 30-minute non-paid lunch period. Employees on the 5-4/9 Schedule work eight 9-hour days and one 8-hour day (plus the 30-minute lunch period) in each biweekly pay period and receive one scheduled day off. Employees on the Maxiflex Schedule may not be scheduled to work more than ten hours nor less than four hours in a workday.
Flexible schedule for volunteer work: PBGC provides flexible work time schedule for employees who participate in community volunteer work.
Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) Program: GRH provides commuters who regularly use ridesharing (vanpool, carpool), mass transportation (rail, bus), bicycle, or walking to get to work (at least twice a week) with a reliable ride home when one of life's unexpected emergencies arises. Commuters are able to use GRH for personal emergencies and unscheduled overtime up to four times a year, and the ride home by cab, rental car, bus, or train is free. The program runs from 6:00am to 10:00pm Monday through Friday.
Health services: Emergency care and first aid treatment for illness or injury is available in the Federal Occupational Health unit at 445 12th Street SW. The health unit also periodically sponsors preventive screening programs for high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, and vision.
In-house training center: PBGC's Training Institute offers many in-house training courses on job-related skills and often covers the cost of outside training for employee development. The Training Institute provides information and a reference library of course catalogs from local schools, colleges, and Federal agencies. The Training Institute also offers the Learning Center as an additional resource, which includes over 300 do-it-yourself course materials such as video or audio cassettes and workbooks on a wide range of subjects.
Information technology: PBGC provides state-of-the-art information systems and information technology to every desktop.
Location: PBGC is located at 445 12th Street SW. PBGC is conveniently located near the DC Wharf, 0.3 miles from the L’Enfant Plaza and Smithsonian Metro stations, and has a public parking garage.
Mass Transportation Subsidy Program: PBGC offers monthly SmartBenefits up to the statutory limit to help defray the commuting cost of employees who use mass transportation, including commuter bus, Metrotrail or Metrobus, or commuter rail systems. PBGC is located within walking distance of both the L’Enfant Plaza Metro station and the Smithsonian Metro station.
Subsidized Parking Program: PBGC offers a subsidized parking program for carpools, executives, and for medical need.
Work Life 4 You: PBGC provides a lifecare management referral and information service for employees and family members dealing with Life, Family, Health, Education, Work, and Finance. This service is provided at no cost to the employee.
