PBGC Launches Spanish-Language Website

WASHINGTON-The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) today inaugurated a Spanish-language website.

"The PBGC is committed to serving all of its customers, and for many English is not their first language," said PBGC Executive Director Bradley D. Belt. "We took another important step toward better customer service today by making information easily accessible to Spanish-speaking participants in defined benefit pension plans."

With one click on PBGC's website,, participants will go directly to information in Spanish. PBGC publications translated into Spanish include "Your Guaranteed Pension," "Finding A Lost Pension," "Your Appeal Rights," "Your Application for Electronic Direct Deposit," various informational Fact Sheets, and newsletters for retirees and deferred vested participants.

Spanish-speaking participants can also speak with a Spanish-speaking Customer Service Representative when they call PBGC's Customer Contact Center numbers: 1-800-400-7242, 1-800-707-7242 (for participants in the LTV Steel Corp. and National Steel Corp. pension plans), or 1-800-453-9584 (for participants in the Bethlehem Steel Corp. pension plan). TTY/TDD users can call the federal relay service toll-free at 1-800-877-8339 and ask to be connected to the appropriate number. PBGC also makes all of its forms available in Spanish as well as several other languages.

The PBGC is a federal corporation created under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) of 1974. It currently guarantees payment of basic pension benefits earned by 44 million American workers and retirees participating in over 31,000 private-sector defined benefit pension plans. The agency receives no funds from general tax revenues. Operations are financed largely by insurance premiums paid by companies that sponsor pension plans and by investment returns.
